At Fireplaces & Interiors of Kent, we are a family-run business with over 20 years of experience supplying, designing and installing fireplaces, stoves and media walls across Ashford, Kent and the wider South East.

Electric Fires

Best for: homes with and without a
chimney, flats, new builds

The simplest option. Electric fires require no chimney, no flue and no structural work – they plug in and run from a standard socket.

The flame effect works independently of the heat, so you can enjoy the ambiance all year round.

Pros

No chimney or flue required
Suitable for any room including smoke controlled areas
Lowest installation cost
Flame effect works without heat
Remote controlled and easy to use
Exceptionally energy efficient – almost all electricity converts directly to heat
Minimal maintenance required

Cons

Not a primary heat source for larger rooms
Running costs higher than gas or solid fuel
Flame effect, while impressive, is not a real fire
Dependent on electricity – won’t work in a power cut

Solid Fuel Stoves

Best for: homes with or without a chimney,
those wanting a real flame

A wood burning or multi-fuel stove gives you a genuine fire with all the warmth and atmosphere that comes with it.

More involved to install than an electric fire but the result is an exquisite focal point that heats a room efficiently and looks stunning doing it.

Pros

Real flame – nothing replicates the genuine article
Excellent heat output – can be a primary heat source
Lower running costs than electric, especially with good quality logs
Adds significant character to a room
Works without electricity
Wide range of styles from contemporary to traditional

Requires ongoing maintenance – annual service and chimney sweep

Pellet Stoves

Best for: those who want a real flame
with minimal effort

Pellet stoves give you the look and warmth of a real fire with the convenience of an automated appliance. They self-ignite and with their auto-feeder they can be controlled from your smartphone.

The best of both worlds for homeowners who love the idea of a stove but not the idea of tending it.

Pros

Automated ignition and pellet feeding – minimal effort
App controlled – set timers and adjust from your phone
Very low emissions – cleaner burning than log stoves
Consistent, programmable heat output
Sustainable fuel source – pellets are a renewable by-product of timber
Defra approved models available for smoke controlled areas
Smaller flue pipe required than a traditional log burner on select models
Newer models feature battery back-up for use during power cuts
Thermostat control available to maintain your preferred room temperature

Cons

Some models dependent on electricity for automated functions
Higher purchase price than equivalent solid fuel stoves
Pellet storage required – must be kept dry
More complex servicing than a standard stove
Some models won’t operate during a power cut
